Join us for the 2011 Basilica Block Party, July 8 & 9
Music for the masses
The Basilica Block Party began in 1995 as a fundraiser to pay for the $9.5 million structural restoration of The Basilica of Saint Mary, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We want the community to know that all proceeds from the Basilica Block Party benefit two areas: funding our ongoing renovation efforts of the Basilica, and supporting the St. Vincent de Paul outreach program that provides food and other services to those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul program provides food and shelter to nearly 3,500 people a month, as well as shoes and transportation assistance to 250 people every week.
The goal of the Basilica Block Party is to promote the spirit of volunteerism and community. More than 25,000 people gather annually in the presence of the historic Basilica of Saint Mary and surrounding blocks to celebrate good food, great music and summer fun. Over the last 16 years, we are proud the Block Party has become a favorite summertime event in the Twin Cities celebrating music, good weather and community, while raising money to preserve a historic landmark that has been an integral part of our community for more than a century.
Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Are kids allowed the attend The Basilica Block Party?
A: Yes -- it's a family friendly event. Kids 5-12 years old cost $15 and under 5 years old are free. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and at the main gate of the event.
Q: Where do I get in?
A: The main gate is located at the corner of 16th Street and Hennepin Avenue. Gates will open at 5pm.
Q: Can I bring in bottled water?
A: No outside food or beverages are permitted. Bags will be searched at the entrance and items will confiscated.
Q: What about my camera or digital recorder?
A: Some bands are perfectly happy to have their pictures taken or the their sets recorded. But because many are not and have written this into their contracts, we do not allow cameras or recording equipment on the grounds. Only individuals with approved press credentials will be allowed on site with cameras.
Q: I'd like to bring my dog. Is that okay?
A: Only service anilmals are allowed on site.
Q: I use a wheelchair. Will I be able to navigate the site?
A: We have set aside seating areas with viewing access for each stage. There are also ped ramps set up to navigate curbs. If you are experiencing trouble, please stop one of our security volunteers or committee members (identifiable by their t-shirts) for assistance.
Q: Will I get my money back if it rains?
A: This is a rain or shine event. In the past 16 years we have had to suspend the music only once for a time as we waited for a major storm to pass. And even then, the bands started up again after the weather cleared. In case of emergency weather our volunteers will direct you to the nearest safe place to take shelter.
Q: Can I leave and come back?
A: Once you leave the gated area, we are unable to let you re-enter. Please plan accordingly.
Q: Will beer be served?
A: Yes -- we will have both beer and wine available for purchase to those possessing an ID valid in the state of Minnesota. We will issue wristbands to those eligible to drink legally. Valid IDs include state issued Driver's License/ID Card, Military ID, Green Card or a US/Foreign Passport. We cannot accept international driver's licenses, expired licenses/id's or ids that have been clipped without the valid state issued yellow paper.

A: Public parking is available for a fee at the Walker Art Center, Dunwoody Institute, St Mark's Episcopal Cathedral and other downtown area parking ramps. Please check with these locations for their specific fees. Free parking is available at the MCTC Ramp with the purchase of a VIP ticket.
